Skate Warz at Cop Curbs: A Day of Family, Skate, and Inspiration

Last weekend, my son Austyn and I spent an epic day at Cop Curbs in Fountain Valley, where the skateboard community gathered for Skate Warz — formerly known as Curb Warz. This event, hosted by skate legend Willy Santos, is a fresh take on the classic game of S.K.A.T.E., but with a twist: it’s all about skating curbs. While it’s rooted in curb sessions, the contest is set to evolve, eventually including ramps and other obstacles.

The vibe was rad. Skaters from all over showed up to throw down tricks on the curbs, battling it out with creative curb combos. One of the highlights for me was meeting and getting a family a photo with Ray Barbie, a longtime inspiration to myself and the skate community. It was a special moment to share that with Austyn - skateboarding truly connects generations.

To make the day even more memorable, I brought along some old china plates passed down from my parents. I had a few pros sign them, including Daniel Castillo from Chocolate Skateboards and Cooper Wilt from Almost Skateboards — adding a unique piece of skate history to my collection.

But the real star of the day was Austyn. Watching him land his very first railslide on the curbs was unforgettable. He shredded with confidence and joy, reminding me why days like this matter - it’s about passion, family, friends, and having fun.

Huge congrats to DJ Runway and Kyong Kim for keeping the energy up and filming for the world to see, and to Willy Santos for organizing a fun, exciting skate event that’s bringing so many people together having a great time.

Looking forward to more Skate Warz events and sharing many more skate memories with Austyn.
